Personal information

1. Global Malaysians Network will observe the necessary legal obligations and the protection of privacy rights over the storage and use of any personal information and contact details supplied to www.globalmalaysians.com (e.g. GMN membership, for competitions, event participation and others).

2. In general, any information you provide to GMN will only be used within the GMN and by its partners, agents and service providers.

3. GMN will display a directory of its members. Of the information submitted with the membership form, only your Name, Country of Residence and Professional/Work Details will be displayed in the directory. All other information will not be made public.

4. However, GMN may consider disclosure of your personal information in the event that we are required, obliged or permitted by law to do so.

5. Your personal information can be removed from our database at your own request.

Use of web forums and other interactive functions

1. We encourage healthy forum discussion and interaction amongst GMN members worldwide. Members are also encouraged to write to the editor or contribute articles about their life and activities abroad.

2. When submitting any contribution to www.globalmalaysians.com (including any text, photographs, graphics, video or audio) you agree, by submitting your contribution, to grant the Global Malaysians Network a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licenseable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform, play, make available to the public, and exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to your contribution worldwide and/or to incorporate your contribution in other works in any media now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in your contribution, and in accordance with privacy restrictions set out in the GMN’s policy on personal information. If you do not want to grant to the GMN the rights set out above, please do not submit your contribution to www.globalmalaysians.com

3. But if you post or send offensive, inappropriate or objectionable content anywhere on or to www.globalmalaysians.com or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on www.globalmalaysians.com, the GMN is authorised to use whatever information that is available to it about you to stop such behaviour. This may involve informing relevant third parties and law enforcement agencies about the content and your behaviour.

4. GMN e-Community’s etiquette:

•   Contributions must be civil and tasteful
•   No disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour or conduct
•   Any unlawful or objectionable content – e.g. unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, racially or religiously offensive and politically sensitive material – is not acceptable.
•   Each user is only allowed a single login and user name
•   Practice understanding and tolerance because users of all ages and abilities may be taking part in the relevant GMN e-Community
•   No spamming or off-topic material
•   No advertising
•   No impersonation
•   No inappropriate (e.g. vulgar, offensive etc) user names
•   Breach of any of the above rules of etiquette may result in the suspension or termination of a user account
•   Users are allowed and encouraged to report abuse by another user. However, deliberate misuse of the complaints facility may result in suspension/termination of your user account .

Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Global Malaysians Network and The Star are not liable for any third-party contents contributed and published on www.globalmalaysians.com. GMN will scrutinise all contributions and remove any malicious article or comment whenever alerted.

Under no circumstances will the GMN and/or Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad be liable for any of the following losses or damage (whether such losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or otherwise): (a) loss of data; (b) loss of revenue or anticipated profits; (c) loss of business; (d) loss of opportunity; (e) loss of goodwill or injury to reputation; (f) losses suffered by third parties; or (g) any indirect, consequential, special or exemplary damages arising from the use of www.globalmalaysians.com regardless of the form of action.
