My 5 years old son was off diaper when he was 3 years old. Cant take any credit for that becoz it was him who doesnt want to wear diapers anymore. He doesnt really like the wet feeling in his pant. Beside that he was way to big for normal diapers.
But my daughter who is 4 now is still wearing one. Maybe she's just plain lazy to get up and shee shee at night becoz nap time, no problem.

My eldest is almost 5 and we are trying to get him off using diapers at night. So far we have been trying whole week without wearing one. Only 1 out of the 7 nights we don't have to change bed sheet.

ah bear,
do i sense a hint of desperation there? i have heard of a device that gives a small electric jolt when the kid start to wee and it wakes them up. it doesn't hurt them, just enough to wake them up b4 they let go of their bladder totally. another suggestion i've heard were bribery............reward the child for doing well and not to make a big fuss if they don't cause it will only make them more anxious............patience and persistence is the key. make sure they empty their bladder and do not let them drink too much b4 bed.
best of luck. do not give up, persevere, persevere and persevere.let us know how you're going.

bear,
i cannot share much with you coz' my 5 year old girl is still on diapers... we managed to wean off her older brother at about 4 yrs old by telling him that there's simply no more pampers that fits his size (which is 1/2 truth coz' only Huggies night pants cater for more than 20kg).... However, my nanny was actually quite hardworking to bring him up for pee at 2am every nite (coz' he still needs his nightly milk b4 bed).... after waking up nightly and bring to toilet for about 2 months, eventually he learns how to "tahan"... for my girl, i think my nanny did not have the patience to wake up 2x a nite coz' apparently she needs that 2x as we still takes 2 bottles of milk before zzzzz!!!!
Hope your kids would be able to wean off diapers soon... wonder when my girl could do that...

Bear,
i was trying to recall our strategy for our 2 older kids. don't think there was any, though. we just persevered.
our bunny still wets his bed sometimes but getting less already. have learnt the hard way that we can't give him more than 2 pieces of watermelon at night. we also ask him to go shee shee before going to bed.
when he was about 2+ or 3+, he actually did his business in the wastebin. that time he slept with us and we've taught him to go to the toilet to shee shee at night. but i guess that one time, he was just too sleepy and blur.

dear Puspa,
Welcome... What Grace says is correct!!! My dentist told me the same thing and the child is only ready for braces when all their milk teeth already change to permanent teeth... Meanwhile, why some kids teeth eventually straighten is because their jawline may have expanded over the growing years... If you want to expand the jaw, my dentist suggest munching and chewing a lot to exercise so that the jaw would expand... for kids before adolensence, it's quite possible that change would happen...
there's no hard & fast rule as to what age they should start wearing... the time line is more often when all their milk teeth fall off... some may have totally changed by 9 years old while some kids extend until 12 years old...
Suggestion from dentist is to have at least a check-up every 6 months to ensure cavities are in control... Of course if this doesn't burn a hole in your pocket...
good luck!

Hi Pushpa,
My daughter had the same problem but my dentist told me that since she still have some milk teeth and also she is still growing (her face) , it is best to wait for a bit longer. Since then, I have noticed that my daughter's teeth has straightened out. But, my best advise to u would be to take your daughter and in fact, take the whole family for dental check-up as they are bloody expensive here ( look up on my posting re dental in australia)

Well, better do it quickly then, it's very costly to have braces done in Oz. Perhaps between $3 and 6k.
Yr daughter wd still need to get the braces adjusted every now n then, but I guess that'd haveta be done by a dental surgeon here.
