You get what you pay for.
While I understand that you have an empty property on which you want to build on and that professional architectural fees are not inexpensive, it won't save you much in the long run if you try to obtain "free" designs to use to build from. Your PM to me states that you have no money to pay for design fees. Yet you own a piece of land.
Last time I looked, I don't own any land of my own that could be developed. So why would you assume that I would want to contribute my "free time" to come up with a design for you. I hardly have time to visit GMN anymore let alone contribute my time to design a house for you for free. This particular topic is about sustainable design and what we can do to improve the environment.
Actually I do hope you do obtain a "free" design from a first year design student and you actually move forward to build with it. Send us pics.
Nik,
Interesting pics. The upside down house is a bit overdone though. See it all the time.
Thanks for keeping in touch and sending me stuff from time to time. I have responded to many of them.
Anyway as you can tell I have been busy for the most part. Not a lot of free time lately.
I'll drop in from time to time.
Do note that many things I brought up here are coming to pass. More request for green buildings. More businesses developing and selling green or environmentally friendly products. A lot of businesses using the green line to push their products. Yup, being green is in and it is a growing business.
Renewable energy and other alternative sources of energy will continue to come to the forefront in the next few years. No country can depend on oil forever since it's a limited supply form of energy. The taps will run dry eventually and sooner for some countries.
Cheers all.

kawan,
if u r gonna build a house, why would u want to be so cheapskate to save the few hundred or thou ringgit ( i don't know how much it wud cost to engage an architect) and use some student's trial design leh. it's fools economy lah. u might end up with some horrible thingy. the smart thing to do wud be engage a pro.

I dont wish to be rude but why the heck would someone you dont know volunteer their "design services" for your bungalow??? You're not asking for advice, you're asking for a free ride

Ooo my friend Gerard, you are busy alright. Please come in..We miss you very much and in dire needs of your inputs. Hahaha..please do make yourself at home in GMN (heey..that's not my line? it's Brigitte's and Gavin's..sorry guys)
What I'm afraid is that, the moment you decide to respond to this message...I am busy again....

Sorry. Been busy for a long time. Still busy but I do drop in and out.
Time. We tend to run out of it but we need the some things to work itself out over time. Hopefully not too much damage has been done. Obviously old buildings that are torn down are lost forever.
Developers, governments and people need to realize that sometimes, new isn't always the better way to do things.
Keeping our history intact is important. We learn from the past and not history that is restructured according to what we want to hear.
Restoring old buildings is a worthwhile effort. Look at europe and Japan. They retain their old buildings which become another source of income through tourism. Why would a tourist come here if not partly to see the past? If we bull doze everything in an effort to show shiny new buildings, I can guaranteee that those new buildings are not enough to bring the tourist in. After all, the tallest buildings in the world are no longer in KL, are they? Records get broken. However a past that is cherished and preserved will always be there to give back to the future.
